Dr Marc Ruitenberg

Dr Marc Ruitenberg is the current SpinalCure Australia Research Fellow and a Senior Lecturer in Neuroanatomy & Neuroscience in the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland. He is also an active member of the Trauma, Critical Care and Recovery Flagship of the Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners, which aims to deliver state-of-the-art treatment for trauma patients across the entire spectrum of care. A key focus of Dr Ruitenberg's research work is to better understand the role of inflammation in acquired central nervous system injury, in particular traumatic spinal cord injury. The ultimate goal of his research is to develop new and effective immune-modulatory treatments to improve outcomes for neurotrauma patients. Dr Ruitenberg's laboratory is also engaged with the development of advanced magnetic resonance-based imaging techniques to better diagnose and treat spinal cord injury.
